Softball Sweeps Valley Forge Christian, 8-0 and 8-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team improved to 14-15 on the season with today's 8-0 and 8-1 victories over the visiting Valley Forge Christian College Patriots.  The victories snapped a four game losing streak for the Cavaliers.

The Blue and White wasted little time taking control of the opener, as it plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Amber Dietrich opened the scoring, crossing the plate on a Patriots' error.  Two batters later, Cabrini loaded the bases with just one out.

The next four batters, freshman Taylor Gallagher, sophomore Stacie Roller, sophomore Lea Enoch and freshman Natalie Giannascoli, reached safely, as the Cavaliers went station to station around the bases.  Gallagher and Giannascoli recorded singles, while Roller and Enoch drew walks.

Cabrini again loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third inning.  Freshman Katelyn Melahn drew a bases loaded walk, plating Roller.  Two batters later, junior Steph Diegel clubbed a double to left center, scoing Dietrich and Enoch, to extend the lead to 8-0.

Gallagher earned the shutout victory, after surrendering just two hits in five innings.  The rookie also struck out six, while not allowing a walk.  Six players accounted for Cabrini's six base hits, while Dietrich scored twice and Diegel knocked in two runs.

The Cavaliers took early control of the night cap, as well.  Cabrini loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the second inning.   As they did in the opener, the Blue and White took advantage, plating four runs in the inning.  Melahn and sophomore Molly McDougall recorded RBI's on singles back through the box, followed by an RBI single to right centerfield by senior Jennifer Ciambriello.  After a fly out, Enoch reached on an RBI fielder's choice.

The Patriots took advantage of a Cabrini miscue to score an unearned run in the top of the third.  Cabrini extended its lead in the top of the fifth inning, as sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper recorded her third home run of the season, a two run shot that bounced off the top of the fence.  The Cavaliers tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as freshman Lindsay Savar's single scored Cooper and Giannascoli.

Gallagher gave another solid performance in the circle, allowing no earned runs on five hits and six strikeouts.  Cooper and Diegel recorded two base hits each, while Cooper and Savar knocked in two runs each.

The Blue and White will return to CSAC action on Monday as it visits Gwynedd Mercy (10-18, 10-5 CSAC).  First pitch of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
