Box Score 2 LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team scored a pair of road victories today, as the Cavaliers topped Keystone College 7-3 and 13-5 in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader. The wins improve the Blue and White to 6-9 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Cooper and junior
Becca Miles paced the Cavaliers in the opener. Cooper went 4-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Miles supplied the power with a grand slam in the third inning, her second home run of the season.
Cabrini wasted little time opening the scoring as Cooper's RBI double to center field scored freshman
Amber Dietrich. The score remained 1-0 until the third inning when two out singles by freshman
Lindsay Savar and Cooper and a walk by junior
Steph Diegel loaded the bases for Miles. The junior then cleared the base paths with a shot over the centerfield wall.
The Cavaliers extended the lead in the fifth inning when Savar scored on a sacrifice fly by fellow rookie
Taylor Gallagher. The Giants plated a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth and added another tally in the sixth but Gallagher's second sacrifice fly gave Cabrini an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Gallagher also earned the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing just one earned run on nine hits.
The Blue and White continued its hot hitting in the nightcap, as Miles' double to left in the top of the first scored Dietrich and Cooper. Cabrini built its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third as Dietrich's single scored sophomore
Lea Enoch.
Keystone fought back in the third inning, recording a five run inning on just seven singles. The Cavaliers began to chip away at their deficit in the top of the fourth, as Cooper's bases loaded single to left scored Enoch.
Cabrini regained the lead one inning later as Dietrich's bases loaded double to left center plated Enoch, freshman
Brianna Milillo and Gallagher. Two batters later, Dietrich came home on Cooper's single to left. Both clubs put runners on in the sixth inning but Cabrini held its 8-5 lead after six complete innings.
The Blue and White removed any doubt about the outcome in the top of the seventh inning, as the club banged out five runs. Freshman
Natalie Giannascoli led off the frame with a single. Dietrich reached on a two base error by the left fielder, a play that allowed Giannascoli to score. Savar's double to center scored Dietrich.
After Cooper and Diegel drew back to back walks, Miles did more damage, knocking in Savar and Cooper with a double to left center. The next batter, Gallagher, singled to left to score Diegel for a 13-5 advantage.
Dietrich, Savar and Gallagher recorded three base hits each in the win, while Dietrich and Miles knocked in four runs each. Dietrich and Enoch crossed the plate three times. Freshman
Kiley Sharp earned the victory after surrendering five earned runs on 14 hits and posting a season high six strikeouts.
The Blue and White will return to action on Friday when the Cedar Crest Falcons (0-13, 0-5 CSAC) visit Cabrini field. First pitch of the CSAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
