Box Score 2 RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team extended its current win streak to six games with today's 11-2 and 3-1 wins over Baptist Bible College at Cabrini Field. The Colonial States Athletic Conference wins improve the club to 13-5 in the conference and 18-15 overall. The 18 victories mark the most for the program since the 2010 campaign.
The Defenders built an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning of the opener. The lead was short-lived as freshmen
Amber Dietrich and
Lindsay Savar singled to open the bottom of the first inning, before sophomore
Kaitlyn Cooper drilled a pitch over the left center fence for a three run homer, her fifth round tripper of the season.
The 3-2 lead was enough for freshman hurler
Taylor Gallagher, who surrendered three hits and struck out four Defenders over the game's final four innings.
The Blue and White continued to click at the plate, adding an unearned run in the second. The Cavaliers took advantage of a Baptist Bible error in the third to build its lead. Dietrich's RBI single through the left side scored fellow rookie
Natalie Giannascoli, before Savar clubbed her second home run of the year, a three run shot to left field.
Cabrini continued to make the most of its opportunities in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, sophomore
Stacie Roller reached on an infield single and advanced to third as Mack reached on a Defenders' error. Roller scored on a wild pitch before Mack scored on Dietrich's single to left center. Cooper added two more RBI to her afternoon with a double to left center, scoring Dietrich and freshman Kaitlyn Melahn.
The Cavaliers' top three hitter in the line-up, Dietrich, Savar and Cooper, combined to go 7-10 with nine RBI and seven runs scored.
The Cavaliers turned to the right arm of freshman
Kiley Sharp in the nightcap and the rookie delivered. Sharp scattered eight hits, allowing one run with three strike outs for her sixth win of the year.
Cabrini got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, as sophomore
Lea Enoch's single through the right side scored Gallagher. Baptist Bible evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Blue and White regained the lead in the bottom of the frame.
Melahn's single through the left side plated junior
Steph Diegel. Minutes later, Melahn took third and home on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.
The Defenders threatened in both the fifth and sixth innings, but outfield assists by Dietrich and Mack ended the threats.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Friday as they welcome Notre Dame of Maryland University (9-13, 5-13 CSAC) to Cabrini Field. The game will make the final regular season home games for senior Jen Ciambriello, the club's lone senior. First pitch of the CSAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
