RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team secured its 20th victory of the season for the first time since 2010 and just the second time since 2005 with today's 10-0 and 9-0 victories over Notre Dame of Maryland University at Cabrini Field. The Cavaliers improved to 20-15 overall and 15-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with their seventh and eighth consecutive wins.
The Blue and White also took a few minutes between games to recognize the contributions of senior
Jennifer Ciambriello in her final regular season appearance at Cabrini Field. The senior has helped the Cavaliers to 64 career wins and an appearance in the 2011 CSAC Tournament. She will also lead Cabrini into the 2014 postseason tournament next week.
Freshman
Taylor Gallagher didn't need much offense in the opener, as the rookie pitcher kept the Gators' bats silent. Gallagher struck out a career high seven and scattered four hits, two of which came in the first inning.
The Cavaliers got all of its offense in the second inning as it erupted for 10 runs on five hits. Junior
Steph Diegel reached first after being hit by a pitch and advancing to second on a wild pitch. Junior
Becca Miles sent Diegel to third with a single to right. Gallagher reached on an infield error, loading the bases.
Sophomore
Lea Enoch knocked in Diegel and Miles with a double down the left field line. Freshman
Taylor Mack followed suit with a two RBI double to the same spot, plating Gallagher and Enoch. Freshman
Lindsay Savar and sophomore
Kaitlyn Cooper drew walks to load the bases for Diegel. The junior immediately cleared the bags with a grand slam blast to left field.
The Blue and White wasn't quite done yet as Miles drew a second free pass before advancing to third on a Gallagher double. Both Miles and Gallagher crossed the plate as Ciambriello reached on an infield error.
Diegel and Mack went 2-2 in the game and combined to knock in six runs.
Freshman
Kiley Sharp match Gallagher's pitching performance in the second game, surrendering just two hits and striking out four Gators. Sharp didn't allow a Notre Dame player to reach second in the game.
The Cavaliers didn't waste any time grabbing an early lead. Freshman
Amber Dietrich led off with a bunt single. Savar, Cabrini's second batter, smashed a two run home run over the left field fence, her third round tripper of the season. Savar added another RBI in the second inning, as her fielder's choice scored fellow freshman
Brianna Milillo.
Cabrini broke the game open in the third inning, scoring six runs on six hits. The Cavaliers loaded the bases with one out before Milillo's double down the left field line plated Gallagher and Miles. Mack, the next batter, scored freshman
Natalie Giannascoli and Milillo with a double to left center. Following a Notre Dame pitching change, Dietrich stepped into the box and cleared the base paths with a two-run home to deep center field, her CSAC leading seventh of the year.
Dietrich and Savar, Cabrini's one and two hitters, combined to go 5-6 in the game, with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.
Cabrini will close its CSAC slate on Saturday, as it visits Rosemont College (3-17, 3-17 CSAC). First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
