Softball Closes Regular Season on 10 Game Win Streak

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team closed its regular season on a 10 game win streak, as the Cavaliers topped Rosemont College 8-2 and 9-0 in their regular season finale today.  With the wins, the Blue and White enter the postseason with an overall mark of 22-15, including 17-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The 22 victories are the most wins for the program since the 2010 season (25-19) , which is also the last time the Blue and White appeared in the CSAC Tournament.  The 17 conference wins are the most for the Cavaliers since the 2005 campaign when the club went 18-4.

By virtue of its conference record, the Cavaliers earned the number four seed in next week's CSAC Tournament.  Cabrini will host fifth seeded Centenary College (15-24, 14-8 CSAC) for one game on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the tournament's first round.  The winner will advance to Friday's Championship Day One at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.

The Cavaliers took a few innings to find its offensive rhythm today at Rosemont, as the game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning.  Junior Steph Diegel doubled to left then scored on a second consecutive double by junior Becca Miles.  Miles advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a single to centerfield by freshman Natalie Giannascoli.  The Blue and White extended the lead to 3-0 as Giannascolis scored on freshman Taylor Mack's infield single.

Cabrini tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, as freshman Taylor Gallagher scored sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper with a single to centerfield.

The offense continued to motor into the sixth, as Mack's infield single scored fellow rookie Brianna Milillo.  Mack eventually scored on a wild pitch, just before Cooper crushed a pitch over the left centerfield wall for a two run home run, her sixth of the season.

The Ravens plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, but left three runners on base to end the sixth and stranded two more runners in the seventh.

Cooper, Miles and Mack recorded two base knocks in the opener, while Cooper and Mack knocked in a pair of runs each.  Gallagher controlled Rosemont's offense from the pitcher's circle, surrendering just two runs on eight hits for her 14th win of the season.

Cabrini didn't take nearly as long to take a lead in game two, as freshman Amber Dietrich led off the game with her conference leading eighth home run of the season.  The Blue and White doubled its lead a few batters later, as Gallagher's single to right centerfield scored Cooper.

The score remained 2-0 until the fifth inning, when Cooper's third triple of the season scored Dietrich and fellow freshman Lindsay Savar.  Cooper crossed the plate on Miles' single up the middle.

The Cavaliers added a pair of runs in the fifth, as Diegel's double down the left field line plated sophomore's Molly McDougall and Lea Enogh.  McDougall closed the scoring in the seventh, as the sophomore's double to left scored Milillo and senior Jennifer Ciambriello.

Eight Cavaliers accounted for the club's 10 base hits, led by two each from Dietrich and Cooper.  McDougall, Cooper and Diegel also knocked in six of Cabrini's nine runs in the game.  Freshman pitcher Kiley Sharp scattered five hits to record her fifth career shutout.
