Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – It took an extra inning, but in the end the Cabrini softball made its reservation for this weekend's Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship Round after today's 7-6 walkoff win over Centenary College at Cabrini field. With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 23-15 overall.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Cooper and freshman
Taylor Mack recorded four of Cabrini's seven hits on the day, while Mack and fellow rookie
Amber Dietrich knocked in two runs each.
Both of Cabrini's freshmen pitchers saw action, as
Taylor Gallagher started the game before being replaced by
Kiley Sharp in the third inning. Sharp earned the win after allowing two earned runs over the final 5.2 innings.
The Cyclones opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, plating two runs. The Cavaliers responded with a two out rally in the bottom of the second. Mack put Cabrini on the board with a two RBI single to right, scoring Gallagher and junior
Steph Diegel. Dietrich doubled the lead with a single through the left side to score freshman
Natalie Giannascoli and Mack.
The lead was short lived, as Centenary chased Gallagher with back to back home runs to tie the score at 4-4. The Cyclones regained the lead in the top of the fifth using three consecutive singles to take a 5-4 lead.
The Blue and White rallied again in the bottom of the fifth, as it loaded the bases with no outs. Cooper singled through the right side to score Mack. Diegel, the next batter, grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Dietrich to score on the play putting Cabrini ahead 6-5.
The Cyclones took advantage of a Cabrini defensive miscue in the top of the seventh to plate the game-tying run before Sharp stranded runners at first and third.
Cabrini had a shot to end the game in the seventh, as Cooper hit her team-leading fourth triple of the season but the sophomore was stranded at third.
Centenary opened the eighth fame with a single, but back to back fielder's choices and an infield pop out ended the threat.
Junior
Becca Miles drew a walk to open the bottom of the eighth and was replaced on the base paths by sophomore
Molly McDougall. Gallagher returned to the game to pitch hit for Sharp and executed a textbook sacrifice bunt, advancing McDougall to second. With one out, freshman
Brianna Milillo stepped to the plate and singled to right field. McDougall advanced to third and took advantage of a momentary pause by the Centenary right fielder to score on
the play.
The Blue and White will open the double elimination tournament against top seeded Marywood University (21-11) at Noon on the Pacers' home field in Scranton, Pa. A loss puts Cabrini the 2:00 p.m. elimination game, while a victory sends the Cavaliers into a winner's bracket game at 4:00 p.m.
