Field Hockey Opens 2014 With 4-2 Comeback Win

MADISON, N.J. – The Cabrini field hockey team got its 2014 season off to a rousing start, as the club rallied for a 4-2 victory over the host Rangers at the Drew University Fall Festival.  The victory marks Cabrini's first season-opening win since a 2-1 win over Drew in 2008.

Junior Jen Webb led four Cavaliers scorers with a goal and an assist.  Fellow junior Kerry Anne Farrell and sophomores Taylor Mack and Kylie McDevitt also found the back of the net, while senior Karlie Gruccio posted an assist.

Webb put the Blue and White up early, notching the season's first goal just 69 seconds in the action.  Drew wasted little time responding, build a 2-1 halftime advantage with goals in the eighth and 29th minutes.

Head coach Jackie Neary refocused her charges during the halftime break, as the Cavaliers took over the second half, outshooting the Rangers 10-1 and attempting eight penalty corners to Drew's three.

The Blue and White evened the score in the 44th minute, as Gruccio found Mack.  Farrell tallied the eventual game-winner with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute.  Cabrini put the game on ice in the 68th minute as Webb found McDevitt for a 4-2 lead.

Freshman goaltender Taylor Bookman notched three saves earn to her first career victory.  Farrell accounted for five of Cabrini's 16 shots on the day, two more than McDevitt and Webb.

Melissa Boyd and Bea Cannavale record a goal and an assist each for the Rangers.

Cabrini will face Lebanon Valley on Saturday at 12 Noon on the second day of the festival.
