NEWPORT NEWS, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team split a pair of matches at the season-opening Captains Classic at Christopher Newport University on Friday. The Cavaliers topped Virginia Wesleyan 3-0 before falling to Southern Virginia 3-1 in the night cap.
Freshman
Anne-Marie Jones led the Cavaliers in their 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 loss, recording her first double-double. The rookie tallied a team high 13 kills and 18 digs. Senior
Amy Guarino matches Jones with 13 kills, while sophomore
Kelly Guarino earned tam high honors with 20 digs.
Junior
Jen Grenauer added 12 kills on the night, while fellow junior
Cassidy Koenig paired 42 assists with 11 digs.
Statistics are not yet available for Cabrini's 3-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan.
The Blue and White will return to the court in the morning, as it faces Washington and Lee (1-1) at 10 a.m. and the host, No. 25 Captains (2-0) at 12 noon.
