RADNOR, Pa. - Senior
Karlie Gruccio matched a career high with two goals today, to lead the Cabrini field hockey team to a 3-1 win over the visiting Widener Pride at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The nonconference victory evened the Cavaliers record at 3-3.
The senior paced a Blue and White offensive attack that outshot Widener 15-2 on the day, including 14 on goal, and earned 16 penalty corners to just one by the Pride.
Junior
Kerry Anne Farrell led the Cavaliers with seven shots, all seven on goal, while fellow junior
Jen Webb and sophomore
Kylie McDevitt added three shots each.
Gruccio put the Cavaliers ahead early, as the senior collected a loose ball and deposited it into the goal in the seventh minute. Widener built some momentum in the final minutes of the opening half, as it tied the score in the 32nd minute on sophomore Brittany Lavin's goal.
The Blue and White regained the lead in the opening minutes of the second half as junior
Danielle Palatano connected with Gruccio in the 39th minute. The Cavaliers continued to pressure the Widener defense, finally breaking through in the game's final minute as Farrell found Webb for the junior's fourth goal of the campaign.
Senior goaltender Maggie Karmeris recorded 10 saves for Widener (2-5).
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Steven Institute (3-4, 0-1 Empire 8) to campus. The Blue and White will meet the Ducks at Edith Robb Dixon Field at 4:00 p.m.
