Dominant First Half Leads to 6-0 Field Hockey Win

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team used a dominant first half to score a 6-0 Homecoming win over Keystone College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both clubs.  The Cavaliers' fourth consecutive win improved the team to 5-3 overall.

Junior Jen Webb led the Blue and White with her first career hat trick, while fellow junior Kerry Anne Farrell added a goal and two assists.  Senior Danielle Palatano also netted her first career goal to go with an assist in the win.

The Blue and White controlled the flow of the game from the opening whistle, as Webb netted her first two goals in the game's opening 6:30.  Freshman Jackie Neary and senior Karlie Gruccio were credited with assists on the junior's first two tallies.

Palatano's first collegiate goal came as an unassisted score in the 19th minute.  Four minutes later, Farrell found sophomore Taylor Mack for her third goal of the campaign.

Palatano found Farrell for the junior's team leading 10th goal in the 28th minute, as Cabrini carried a commanding 5-0 lead into the halftime break.  The Blue White outshot the Giants 13-0 and recorded eight penalty corners to none for Keystone in the opening 35 minutes.

Webb closed the day's scoring in the 44th minute on Farrell's second assist of the game.

Cabrini fired 22 shots on the day, marking the third time in the last four outings that the club has recorded at least 20 shots.  Farrell led the way with six shots, one more than Webb while Palatano and Gruccio added three each.

The Cavaliers' trio of freshmen goaltenders, Taylor Bookman, Melanie Carpenter and Monica Rego, combined to record two saves in the team's second shutout of the season.

The Blue and White will have a few days to relax, as it doesn't return to action until next Saturday when it hosts Marywood University (4-5, 1-1 CSAC) in conference action.  Game time is slated for 12 Noon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
