RADNOR, Pa. – After scoring a combined three goals in its last two outings, the Cabrini field hockey team regained its scoring touch today, as the Cavaliers scored an 8-0 win over Cedar Crest College at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The victory improved the Cavaliers to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. With two regular season league games remaining, the Blue and White hold the head-to-head tie breaker over Marywood, as both are tied for second in the CSAC standings.
Senior
Kerry Anne Farrell led the Cavaliers with three goals and an assist in the win. Fellow senior
Tiffany Phillips notched two goals, while three Cavaliers marked the scorebook once. Seven different players also recorded assists in the game.
Cabrini's four goalkeepers,
Taylor Bookman,
Monica Rego,
Kate Stevens and
Devon Scharf combined to earn the shutout, with Stevens recording the Blue and White's only save.
The Blue and White jumped ahead in the game's opening minute as junior
Taylor Mack's cross found Phillips for the first of the senior's two goals on the day.
In the fifth minute, sophomore
Jackie Neary dribbled through the Cedar Crest defense before finding Farrell for a one-time shot and goal.
Farrell notched her second of the day in the 11th minute, when she redirected a shot by classmate
Danielle Palatano.
Just 33 seconds later, sophomore
Sara DeVita extended the lead to 4-0 on her first goal of the season.
Sophomore
Sara Johnsen scored her first career goal in the 29th minute after collecting a pass from classmate
Victoria Marchiani.
The Cavaliers carried their 5-0 lead into the halftime break after outshooting the Falcons 15-0.
Cabrini extended its lead in the 40th minute, as Farrell dribbled through the Cedar Crest defense before finding Phillips standing alone at the far post, marking Phillips' team-leading 16th goal of the year.
Farrell completed her second hat trick of the season in the 43rd minute on a goal assisted by fellow senior
Jen Webb.
The Cavaliers ended the scoring in the 61st minute when sophomore
Brittany Smith recorded her first career assist on senior
Ally Fiorelli's second goal of the season.
The Cavaliers recorded 25 shots on the day, including eight by Farrell and four by Fiorelli. Phillips and sophomore
Alex Swallow attempted three each.
Despite allowing seven second half penalty corners, Cabrini held Cedar Crest to just four shots in the win. Junior Taylor Osley led the Falcons (2-12, 1-3 CSAC) with two shots, while sophomore Andi Dargis tallied six saves.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as they welcome the Immaculata Mighty Macs (0-15, 0-4 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The opening whistle is scheduled for 12 Noon.
