Field Hockey Evens Record with 7-1 Win over Notre Dame

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team evened its record at 5-5 and improved to 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference today, as it scored a 7-1 victory over the visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators.

Senior Meghan Loughman led the Blue and White with a career high five points on two goals and an assist.  Classmate Tiffany Phillips added a pair of goals, while junior Taylor Mack paired a goal and an assist.  Senior Danielle Palatano and sophomore Alex Swallow notched two assists each.

The Cavaliers controlled the action from the opening whistle, as they outshot the Gators 13-2 in the opening 35 minutes and earned eight penalty corners to just two for Notre Dame (Md.).

Phillips put Cabrini ahead in the fifth minute, converting a Swallow centering pass.  Junior Kylie McDevitt posted her first goal of the season just two minutes later, as Loughman found her on a penalty corner.  Palatano's pass found Mack in the ninth minute for the junior's first goal of the campaign.

Sophomore Ryan Taylor notched her first career point in the 18th minute, finding Loughman to put the Cavaliers ahead 4-0.  Cabrini extended its lead less than a minute later, as Mack found Phillips for her second tally of the afternoon and her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Cabrini carried its five goal cushion into the second half, but the shutout went by the wayside just two minutes into the second stanza, as freshman Meghan Morales put the Gators on the board with a penalty stroke.

Five minutes later, the Cavaliers regained their five goal lead, as Swallow found Loughman for her second tally of the game.  Sophomore Maddy Worley ended the scoring in the 57th minute, as she converted a Palatano pass into her first career goal.

Sophomore goaltender Taylor Bookman earned the victory, recording four saves.

Morales accounted for five of Notre Dame's six shots on the afternoon, while junior netminder De'Ja Martin posted six saves.

The Cavaliers have a short turnaround, as they will visit Delaware Valley University (5-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) on Wednesday.  The nonconference tilt is slated for 4 p.m.
