RADNOR, Pa. – For the eighth consecutive year, the Cabrini field hockey team will make an appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game.
The Cavaliers punched their tickets to Saturday's title game with tonight's 2-0 victory over the visiting Marywood University Pacers at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Cabrini improved to 11-8 on the season and will face the winner of tonight's second semifinal between top seed Gwynedd Mercy and number four seed Keystone.
After a scoreless opening half, the Blue and White got on the board in the 40th minute when sophomore
Jackie Neary weaved through the Marywood defense before netting her third goal of the campaign.
The Cavaliers sealed the victory in the 68th minute, when senior
Jen Webb punched in a pass from fellow senior
Kerry Anne Farrell for her fourth goal of the year.
Cabrini recorded 21 shots on the day, with 11 of the Blue and White's attempts on target. Farrell led the club with six shots, one more than Neary and two more than Webb.
Cabrini's defensive effort was a big key to tonight's win, as Marywood was held to just three shots in the loss, with just one coming after the halftime break.
Sophomore goaltender
Taylor Bookman stopped all three of the Pacers' shots to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Sophomore Tori Jo Kakusian led Marywood (9-8) with two shots, while freshman goaltender Nicole Merrill tallied eight saves.
