Game Recap: Lacrosse (Men) |

Magnani, Leyden Lead No. 7 Men's Lacrosse to 16-5 Win

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team fought the Haverford College Fords and the falling snow today at Edith Robb Dixon Field as it opened its 2015 season with a 16-5 victory.

Ten players marked the scoring column for the No. 7 Cavaliers, led by freshman James Magnani, who posted seven points on five goals and two assists in his collegiate debut.  Senior Mike Leyden added six points on four goals and two assists.

Junior Cole Campbell and sophomore Evan Downey added three points each, while senior Frankie Magazu added two assists.

The Fords jumped on the board just 22 seconds into action before the Blue and White found its rhythm with nine unanswered goals.

Magnani found junior Evan Allvord at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter for Cabrini's first goal of 2015.  Two minutes, Leyden tallied his first of the season, with an unassisted goal.  Senior Tyler Johnston added an unassisted tally late in the opening period to put the Cavaliers ahead 3-1.

Downey connected with Leyden just over a minute into the second quarter for the senior's second of the day.  Just over 30 seconds later, Magazu recoded the first of his career high three assists when he found junior Joey Dalfo.

Campbell found Magnani with 5:18 left in the period for the rookie's first career tally, while Leyden completed his hat trick with another unassisted goal just 93 seconds before the half.

The halftime break did nothing to slow the Blue and White, as Downey and Magnani extended Cabrini's lead to 9-1 just over 90 seconds into the third period.  Haverford took advantage of a pair of Cabrini penalties in the third period, scoring back to back man-up goals.

Junior Dan Hopson and Leyden found the back of the net before the Fords mustered two more tallies.  Magnani snapped the Haverford scoring streak with two more goals of his own.  With just seconds remaining in the third quarter, Campbell added his first of the season, extending the Blue and White lead to 14-5 after three periods.

Leyden found Magnani for his fifth of the day before sophomore Ryan Hannan closed the scoring with his first goal of the year.

The Cavaliers outshot the Fords 55-17 on the day, led by Leyden's 11 shots.  Junior Brian Kittredge and senior Anthony DiNenno scooped six ground balls each, while DiNenno won 18 of his 23 faceoffs.

Freshman Tyler Morrell earned the victory in the Blue and White net, collecting seven saves and causing three turnovers.  Senior Patrick Nolan also caused three turnovers for the Cavaliers.

Sophomore Chase Williams scored three goals for Haverford (0-1), while classmate Evan Dorman tallied a pair of assists.  Junior Eric Caliendo recorded 14 saves in the loss.

Cabrini will return to action on Sunday, March 1, when it travels south to Lynchburg, Va. to face No. 8 Lynchburg (1-0).  Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
