SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team trailed No. 2 Rochester Institute of Technology for less than three seconds in Saturday's games.  Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, it was the final three seconds of the game, as the Blue and White suffered a 12-11 loss.

The No. 5 Cavaliers surrendered three goals in the final 1:42 to fall to 3-2 on the season.  The game was played at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University.

Seniors Damian Sobieski and Tyler Johnston led the Blue and White with three goals each, while sophomore Evan Downey posted a career high five points on two goals and three assists.  Senior Mike Leyden also added two goals.

The Blue and White fired 34 shots on the day, with Johnston accounting for 12, twice as many as Downey.  Senior Anthony DiNenno won 13 of his 24 faceoffs and scooped a team high four ground balls.  

Freshman goaltender Tyler Morrell recorded 10 saves in the loss.

Sobieski put the Cavaliers on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 7:44 mark of the first quarter.  DiNenno won the ensuing faceoff and rushed toward the goal, finding Johnston just eight seconds after Sobieski's goal.

Following an RIT goal, Downey found Leyden with just 14 seconds remaining in the opening period to give Cabrini a 3-1 cushion after 15 minutes.

The Tigers scored the first goal of the second quarter, before Downey pushed the lead back to 4-2 with an unassisted goal at 10:36.  Following another RIT goal, Downey keyed a pair of Cabrini scores, finding sophomore Ryan Hannan and Leyden, extending the Blue and White lead to 6-3 with 5:20 left before the half.

RIT rallied with back to back goals, before Johnston's unassisted goal closed the half with the Cavaliers leading 7-5.

The Blue and White opened the third quarter with a flurry, as Sobieski and Downey combined for three unassisted goals, pushing the Cabrini lead to 10-5 with 5:29 left in the period.  Not to be outdone, the Tigers answered with three unanswered goals in the final 4:33 of the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 10-8 after 45 minutes.

RIT took advantage of Cabrini's only penalty of the day, opening the fourth quarter with a man-up goal with just one second remaining on the penalty.  Johnston scored his final goal of the day with 3:23 to play, giving Cabrini an 11-9 cushion.

The Tigers rallied to score three goals in the final 102 seconds of the game, including the game-winner with just two seconds on the clock.

Eddie Kiesa led RIT (5-0) with three goals, including the game-winner, and an assist, while goaltender Pat Johnstone tallied nine saves.

The Cavaliers must regroup quickly as it welcomes No. 17 Salisbury University (4-3) to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday.   Cabrini will look for its first win over the Sea Gulls when the clubs faceoff at 4 p.m.
