RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team will host neighborhood rival Eastern in its home-opening doubleheader today at Cabrini Field at 3 p.m.
The two teams met in a doubleheader last year at Eastern, with the Cavaliers falling 6-3 and 7-5. Sophomore
Amber Dietrich led the first game off with a home run but the Eagles regained their composer, holding the Cavaliers scoreless until the sixth inning.
The Eagles tallied a run in the second to even the score and added two runs in the third inning, a run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 6-1. Sophomore

In the second game, the Blue and White held a 3-1 lead after the first inning but the Eagles answered, scoring five runs through the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. In a last inning effort to reclaim the lead, Cabrini fell just short. Junior
Kaitlyn Cooper doubled down the right field line to bring the Cavaliers to within three runs and Diegel doubled to right center, scoring Cooper on the play, falling two runs shy.
The Blue and White (4-4) opened CSAC play with two 15-0, 10-0 wins at Cairn on Thursday. The Cavaliers came out hot in the first game, scoring two runs in the first and second innings, before unloading for seven runs in the third. The Cavaliers crossed home plate once in the fourth and fifth innings as well.
Freshman
Christine Ferraro led the Blue and White with three hits and three runs scored in the first game, while fellow rookie
Alexandria Ramos had a game high three RBI.
Sophomore
Kiley Sharp notched her third win of the season, tossing three shutout innings pitched in the day's first game. The sophomore also tallied three strikeouts, surrendered four hits and struck out three Highlanders in the win.
In the nightcap, the Blue and White jumped out early again, scoring three first inning runs. The Highlanders held the Blue and White scoreless in the second inning but Cabrini broke open for seven runs in the third inning.
The Blue and White tallied 15 hits, while three Cavaliers earned a pair of RBI each in the win.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Hohman had a strong showing in the pitcher's circle, earning her first collegiate win. The rookie surrendered just two hits on four innings pitched and struck out three Highlanders to complete the shutout.
Diegel led the Blue and White, notching three hits, two RBI and two runs. Cooper ended the second game with two runs, hits and RBI, while freshman
Alexandria Ramos also knocked home two runs in the win.
Sharp has been Cabrini's top pitcher this season, with an ERA of 2.33, surrendering just 15 hits in 15 innings. Diegel leads the Blue and White with a .478 batting average. The senior has started all eight games and has tallied 11 hits, seven RBI and two doubles throughout the season.
The Eagles fell to 1-11 after Thursday's 4-3, 8-0 losses at Haverford College. Junior Kasey Williams had one hit, run scored and RBI in the first game. Sophomore Kelsey Clever went 1-3 at the plate, earning an RBI in the loss.
In the second game, sophomore Ashton Tomlinson went 2-3 in the batter's box but the Eagles could not capitalize as only two other Eagles recorded a hit on the night.
Williams holds a team high .351 batting average, while her 13 hits are also first on the team. The junior has four RBI, three doubles, one home run and one triple on the year. Freshman Deanna Laughman is batting .308 with a team high five RBI.
Sophomore Haleigh Williams is 1-2 for the Eagles in the pitcher's circle. The sophomore holds an ERA of 2.73 and has struck out 23 of the 102 batters faced this season.
