Softball Resumes Play Against Gwynedd Mercy Today

RADNOR, Pa. – The Blue and White softball team will resume its suspended game today against Gwynedd Mercy University at Cabrini Field at 4 p.m.

The Cavaliers (14-7, 10-3 CSAC) and Griffins (16-5, 11-2 CSAC) opened the doubleheader on April 7, completing the first game before the rain suspended the nightcap in the third inning.

Cabrini scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Christine Ferraro led the inning off with a walk. Freshman Alexandria Ramos reached first on a bunt single, while Ferraro advanced to third base on the throw. Junior Kaitlyn Cooper's sacrifice fly scored Ferraro to open the scoring.

The Griffins took advantage of a pair of Cavaliers' errors to tie the game in the second.

The Cavaliers regained the lead with three runs on a pair of hits in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and two outs, a passed ball scored sophomore Taylor Gallagher.  Ramos then reached on an infield error, as Ferraro and sophomore Natalie Giannascoli came home.

Gwynedd Mercy managed to score two runs on two hits before the Griffins comeback efforts were interrupted by Mother Nature in the top of the third. The game was suspended with the bases loaded and one out, with Cabrini leading 4-3.

The Cavaliers opened the day with a convincing 6-0 victory, as Cabrini tallied 12 hits. Ramos and sophomore Amber Dietrich posted a double each , while senior Steph Diegel tallied her third homer of the year.

Diegel's three run homer to left center put the Blue and White ahead in the first inning. After a scoreless second, Cabrini picked up two more runs on three hits. The Blue and White scored once more in the bottom of the fifth, after sophomore Lindsay Savar's sacrifice fly to center field scored Dietrich.

Sophomore Kiley Sharp held the Griffins scoreless the rest of the way to earn the shutout win. The sophomore pitched a complete game, struck out five Griffins and surrendered eight hits.
