Box Score 2 RADNOR, Pa. - The Blue and White softball team improved to 11-7 and 13-3 in the CSAC following today's 11-3 and 9-0 wins over the Marywood Pacers.
Senior Steph Diegel put the Cavaliers ahead early, as the senior opened the scoring in the first inning with a three run home run to left field.
In the second, sophomore Amber Dietrich tallied a three run home run to left center field to extend the lead to 6-0.
Marywood scored a run in the top of the fourth but Cabrini answered back in the bottom half, scoring 5 runs on seven hits.
Dietrich reached on a double down the left field line, while junior Caitlyn Cooper followed up with a single. Diegel stepped in the batter's box and hit her second three run home run of the day. Freshman pitcher Jess Giordano helped her cause, knocking in a pair of runs to extend the lead to 11-1.
The Pacers tallied two runs in the fifth but Giordano closed the door in the Marywood rally, stranding a pair of runners to end the game.
The freshman pitched five innings, struck out three Pacers and surrendered just two earned runs to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Diegel's two home runs and six RBI marks career highs, while Dietrich finished 3-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Cooper and freshman Alexandria Ramos also finished the game with a pair of base hits.
In the nightcap, the Blue and White offense stayed hot, scoring nine runs on 13 hits in four innings.
The Blue and White jumped on the board in the second inning as sophomore Lindsay Savar crossed home plate on Natalie Giannascoli's safety squeeze bunt.
In the third inning, Diegel added a two run shot to left center field for her third home run on the day and sixth on the year. Giannascoli singled to right field scoring senior Becca Miles on the play. Sophomore Taylor Mack followed with a three run double to extend the Cavaliers' lead to 7-0.
Cabrini added to its lead in the fourth frame, as Dietrich and Cooper scored on sacrifice flies by Miles and sophomore Taylor Gallagher.
Freshman Kaitlyn Hohman did not allow a Pacer base runner to reach third base, as she earned her sixth win on the year after throwing a five inning shutout. The rookie walked one batter and allowed just five hits in the win.
Cooper went 3-3 with a double at the plate. Savar, Gallager and Mack also recorded two base hits in the nightcap.
The Blue and White will welcome Keystone College (10-12, 8-8 CSAC) to Cabrini Field in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Cavaliers will also honor seniors Lea Enoch, Diegel and Miles between games on Saturday.
