No. 16 Men's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with 20-4 Win

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team closed its regular season with a bang, scoring a 20-4 victory at Immaculata University today.

The No. 16 Blue and White's sixth consecutive win improves the club to 11-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The victory also extends the team's conference win streak to 94 games.

Fifteen Cavaliers marked the scoring column in the win, led by freshman James Magnani, with six points on four goals and two assists, while junior Ethan Heisman totaled five points, pairing two goals and three helpers.

Junior Evan Downey added three points on a goal and two assists.  Seniors Mike Leyden and Tyler Johnston joined junior Cole Campbell with a goal and an assist, while junior Sebastian Kerslake netted two goals.

The Cavaliers recorded 59 shots on the day, its fourth consecutive game with at least 50 shots, while holding the Mighty Macs to just 19 attempts.

Cabrini also dominated the faceoff spot, winning 21 of 28 faceoffs.  Senior Anthony DiNenno went 10-12 at the spot with a game high seven ground balls.  Junior Chris Schneekloth went 5-7 with six ground balls, while freshmen Riley Michaels and Joe Simpson combined to go 4-7.

Sophomore Steve Halko caused a pair of Immaculata turnovers to go with his first goal of the season.  Schneekloth also recorded his first goal of the year, while sophomore Colin McGavin scored his first career goal.

Freshmen goaltenders Tyler Morrell and Jake Reynolds recorded four saves each in the victory.

The Cavaliers ran out to an early lead, as Johnston scored less than three minutes into the game.  Less than a minute later, Heisman added a goal, as junior Matt Ward found senior Damian Sobieski at the 10:46 mark to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Mighty Macs took advantage of a man-up situation to get on the board with 5:50 left in the opening period, but Cabrini responded in a big way.

The Cavaliers scored 16 unanswered goals, a scoring streak that ran into the third quarter.  Leyden's 32nd goal of the year closed the first quarter to give the Blue and White a 6-1 lead.

The Blue and White dominated the second quarter, as Magnani posted three goals and an assist in the frame, with the three goals coming in a two minute span.  Senior Frank Magazu's goal with 12 seconds left in the half extended the lead to 15-1 at the break.

Doug Hughes and Mike Reardon each scored two goals and an assist for the Mighty Macs (4-10, 3-4 CSAC).  By virtue of the loss, Immaculata falls to fifth place in the conference standings, narrowly missing out on a postseason tournament berth.

With the win, the Cavaliers officially clinch the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament and will host Centenary College (5-9, 4-3 CSAC) in Saturday's semifinal round.  Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Cabrini scored a tightly contested 9-4 road victory against the Cyclones on March 24.  After trailing early, the Cavaliers scored seven unanswered goals to pull away from Centenary.  Leyden paired two goals and two assists, while Heisman posted two goals and a helper.
