Softball Tops Gwynedd Mercy 6-0

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini softball team improved to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 6-0 home win against Gwynedd Mercy.  The second game of today's doubleheader was suspended due to rain. 
 
The Cavaliers scored three runs on five hits in the first inning. Freshman Alexandria Ramos singled to left field and advanced on a passed ball. Junior Kaitlyn Cooper followed with an infield single. Senior Steph Diegel opened the scoring with a three run home run to left center for her third homer of the year.
 
The Blue and White came out swinging in the third, scoring two runs on three hits. Cooper opened the frame with a single up the middle. Diegel reached on an error by the left fielder, while Cooper advanced to second. Senior Becca Miles singled to center field to load the bases for sophomore Amber Dietrich. The sophomore singled to left field as Cooper and Diegel crossed home plate. 
 
Dietrich led the bottom of the fifth off with a double to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Savar hit a sacrifice fly to the center fielder, plating Dietrich. 
 
Sophomore Kiley Sharp improved to 7-2 in the circle after pitching a complete game to earn the shutout win. The sophomore allowed just eight hits and struck out five Griffins. 
 
Dietrich went 2-3 at the plate and finished game with a double and two RBI, while Savar went 1-2 and knocked in a run on the day. 
 
The Blue and White got on the board first after notching a run in the first inning to kick off game two.  Ferraro led off the first with a walk and advanced to third on the throw off a Ramos bunt. Cooper flied out to the center fielder but it was deep enough to score Ferraro on the play. 
 
The Griffins got a run back in the top of the second but the Blue and White answered with three runs on two hits in the bottom half. With two outs and two on, Gallagher scored on a passed ball. Ramos reached first on an error and advanced to second on the throw, while Ferraro and Giannascoli came home to extend the lead to 4-1. 
 
In the top of the third, the Griffins scored two runs on two hits and one error, before the game was suspended due to weather.

The game is on hold with one out and the bases loaded. At this time, a reschedule date and time has not yet been determined. 
 
The Blue and White is back in action Friday when it welcomes Centenary College (3-7, 2-0 CSAC) to Cabrini Field for a doubleheader. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
