Softball Falls in CSAC Championship Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
ASTON, Pa.  The Cabrini softball scored an 8-0 win over Immaculata this morning to advance to the title game, but its Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament run came to an end today, after falling 7-2 to Neumann in the Championship game.

The loss ends the Cavaliers' season at 27-11, marking the seventh time the club has surpassed the 25 win plateau and the most wins since the 2004 campaign.

The loss also closes the careers of seniors Lea Enoch, Becca Miles and Steph Diegel. Over the course of four seasons, the trio led the Cavaliers to an 83-72 record, including back to back CSAC Championship appearances. The trio combined for 381 hits, 256 RBI and 31 home runs and were integral parts of Cabrini's recent success.

Freshman Jess Giordano stole the show in the win over Immaculata, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts in the shutout win, as she improved to 9-4 on the season.

In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore Amber Dietrich crossed home plate on junior Kaitlyn Cooper's sacrifice fly to center field.

The Cavaliers scored four more runs in the second. Sophomore Natalie Giannascoli singled to center field, plating Giordano and sophomore Lindsay Savar. Cooper followed with a two run single to right field, as freshmen Christine Ferraro and Alexandria Ramos came home to score.

The Blue and White loaded the bases in the third inning, as Ferraro's walk scored Savar.  The Blue and White added two more runs in the fourth, as Giannascoli's single to left scored Savar and sophomore Brianna Milillo

Giannascoli finished the opener 3-3 and tallied a career high four RBI, while Savar went 2-2 with three runs scored.

Cabrini faced an uphill battle, as it entered its game against Neumann.  With the double elimination format, the Blue and White would have to defeat Neumann twice to earn the title.

The Cavaliers scored first, as Diegel's groundout plated Ferraro.  The lead was short lived, as a fresh Knights team answered for four runs in the bottom half.

The Blue and White got one of the runs back in the second, as Savar's double to centerfield opened the inning. Giannascoli followed with a RBI single to left center to bring the Cavaliers to within two runs.

The Knights added a pair of runs in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth to secure the championship victory.

Dietrich's single in the first inning marked the 100th career hit for the sophomore.  Giannascoli went 2-3 and tallied a RBI, while Diegel also notched a RBI.

Freshman Kaitlyn Hohman and Giordano combined to give up seven runs on 10 hits.
