CHESTER, Pa. – Senior
Kerry Anne Farrell moved to the top of the Cabrini field hockey career points list tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a 4-0 win at Widener.
Farrell netted a pair of goals, ending her night with 143 career points, breaking Jessi Valerio's previous mark of 141. The two goals also brought Farrell to within three goals of Valerio's career goals mark of 63. Valerio, who was also on hand for tonight's game, donned the Blue and White from 1995-98.
Fellow senior
Tiffany Phillips also recorded her first career multi-goal game tonight and added an assist in the win.
Cabrini notched 23 shots in the win, including 18 on goal. The Cavaliers also earned nine penalty corners to just three for Widener.
Farrell and Phillips recorded seven shots each, with a combined nine on target. Sophomore
Sara DeVita added four shots.
While Cabrini's offense led the way, the defensive effort was just as solid. The Cavaliers held Widener to just three total shots, all coming in the second half and none on target.
Phillips put the Cavaliers on the board early in the action, when senior
Jen Webb's pass found her in front of the goal. Phillips doubled the lead in the 21st minute, as she converted a long pass from sophomore
Jackie Neary.
Three minutes later, Farrell tied the program's points record after collecting her own rebound and putting it in the back of the net.
Cabrini maintained its 3-0 lead until the 60th minute when Phillips' shot rebounded to Farrell for her third goal of the campaign and the record breaker.
The Blue and White (2-3) will end its season-opening six game road trip on Tuesday, as it travels to Hoboken, N.J. to face Stevens Institute of Technology (3-2). Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
