RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team found its scoring touch today, as it rebounded from back-to-back shutouts with a 7-0 victory over the visiting Moravian College Greyhounds. With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 3-5 on the season.
Nine Cavaliers recorded at least one point in the win, as Cabrini recorded a season high 34 shots, including 24 shots on goal.
Senior
Tiffany Phillips led the Blue and White with her second two goal outing of the season, while fellow seniors
Kerry Anne Farrell and
Jen Webb paired a goal and an assist each.
Cabrini opened the scoring in the 18th minute, when Webb's cross found Phillips in front of the goal. The Blue and White put some distance between it and the Greyhounds in the minutes of the half.
Junior
Taylor Mack found senior
Meghan Loughman with a cross in the 33rd minute, before Farrell closed the opening stanza with a penalty stroke goal.
The Cavaliers dominated the opening half to the tune of a 22-0 shot advantage and nine penalty corners to none for Moravian.
Cabrini didn't waste much time in the second extending its lead, as sophomore
Jackie Neary's long distance shot beat the goalie inside the right post.
Phillips added her second goal of the night in the 49th minute, when sophomore
Sara DeVita played a long pass through the middle, finding Phillips on the left post.
Webb notched her first goal of the season in the 56th minute, after sophomore
Maddy Worley collected a loose ball and found Webb in front of the goal.
Cabrini closed the scoring in the 69th minute when Farrell hit senior
Ally Fiorelli for her second career goal.
Sophomores
Ryan Taylor and
Jess Tennett anchored a defensive effort that allowed just four Moravian shots. Classmates
Taylor Bookman and
Monica Rego combined in the Blue and Whtie net to earn the save, with Bookman recording Cabrini's only save of the game.
Junior Megan Kanyuk posted 17 saves in the loss, while senior Kelly O'Donnell recorded two shots for the Greyhounds (4-6).
The Cavaliers will open Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday, as they travel to Scranton, Pa. to face Marywood University (4-4). The league opener for both clubs is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
