MADISON, N.J. – After struggling in its first two games of the season, the Cabrini field hockey team found its rhythm today against Drew University and in doing so, earned a milestone victory for head coach
Jackie Neary.
The Cavaliers earned their first victory of the season with today's 3-0 win in its second game of the Drew University Hall Festival.
For Neary, in her 20th year on the Cabrini sideline, the win was the 200th of her illustrious career. With her women's lacrosse wins, Neary now owns 444 victories at Cabrini.
The Blue and White seemed to control the action from the opening whistle, but despite a 15-1 advantage in shots and 11-1 in penalty corners in the first half, the Cavaliers couldn't find the back of the net.
The game remained scoreless until the 57th minute, when senior
Meghan Loughman made her mark on the game. In the span of 2:05, Loughman scored twice, marking her first career multi-goal game.
The senior collected the rebound and put the Cavaliers on the board in the 57th minute. Two minutes later, Loughman collected a pass from sophomore
Jackie Neary and shot it far post.
Sophomore goaltender
Taylor Bookman recorded both of her saves in the final three minutes of the game to keep the Drew scoresheet clean. Senior
Tiffany Phillips sealed the victory with 64 seconds to play, with her first goal of the season.
The Cavaliers totaled 25 shots, including 19 on goal, to just four for the host Rangers. The Blue and White also earned 16 penalty corners.
Senior
Jen Webb recorded a game high four shots, one more than Neary and fellow sophomores
Maddy Worley and
Victoria Marchiani.
The Cavaliers have a few days to relax before visiting No. 4 The College of New Jersey. The Blue and White will head to Ewing, N.J. on Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
