HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team regrouped after Tuesday's tough five set loss to earn a pair of wins today at the Haverford/Swarthmore College Invitational. The Cavaliers downed Swarthmore 3-1 before topping SUNY New Paltz 3-2 in a pair of matches played at Haverford College.
After dropping the first set 25-20, Cabrini fought back to secure the next three sets 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22.
Sophomore
Anne-Marie Jones paced the Blue and White offense in the opener, posting a match high 15 kills to go with her 11 digs. Senior
Jen Grenauer and sophomore
Nicole Sokolovich added 13 kills each.
Senior setter
Cassidy Koenig controlled the pace, totaling 50 assists. Junior
Kelly Guarino led five Cavaliers with double-figure digs with 28. Sokolovich and freshman
Emily Shannon added 16 digs each.
The Blue and White got off to a slow start in the night cap, dropping the opening two sets, 25-16 and 25-22. Whatever head coach
Eric Schaefer said before the third set worked, as Cabrini took control of the match, winning the final three sets 25-20, 25-17 and 18-16.
Koenig fell five assists shy of a career high with 54 helpers on the night. Senior Christina Ingargiola notched a career best 12 kills, one more than Grenauer.
Gaurino also marked a career match, tying her career high of 30 digs. In total, six Cavaliers surpassed 10 digs, including Sokolovich and Shannon with 13 each.
The Blue and White will return to action on Sunday, as its matches move to Swarthmore College. The Cavaliers will face Salisbury University (1-2) at 10 a.m. and Carnegie Mellon University (4-0) at 2 p.m.
