READING, PA – Cabrini's bid for another victory over a top 20 ranked team fell short today, as the field hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss at No. 17 Alvernia in the teams' regular season finale.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 10-7 overall, while the Crusaders improved to 18-1.
Junior
Alex Swallow put the Blue and White ahead in the third minute, as senior
Taylor Mack's penalty corner service deflected off the Alvernia defense to Swallow.
Cabrini held its lead until the final minute of the opening half, as Alvernia evened the score at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Blue and White regained the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, as junior
Sara DeVita hit classmate
Maddy Worley for a goal. The Crusaders, again, had an answer, tying the score less than a minute
later.
The Crusaders scored the eventual winning goal late in the game, converting a penalty corner in the 62nd minute.
Cabrini outshot Alvernia 13-7, including 10-4 in the second half. Mack led the Blue and White with five shots, one more than junior
Jackie Neary.
Junior goaltender
Taylor Bookman recorded a pair of saves, while fellow junior
Jess Tennett added a defensive save.
Rebecca Brosious notched seven saves in the victory for the Crusaders.
Cabrini will return to action on Wednesday, as it hosts Marywood University (12-6, 5-2 CSAC) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal. Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
