RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team took sole possession of first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference tonight, as it downed the visiting Keystone College Giants 3-0 at Nerney Field House.
The Cavaliers' 42nd consecutive CSAC victory improved the club to 7-10 overall and 5-0 in league play, while Keystone fell to 10-6 and 6-1 in the conference.
The Blue and White displayed a balanced effort in the 25-20, 25-13, 25-16 triumph. Junior
Anne-Marie Jones led the Cavaliers with 12 kills, while senior
Kelly Guarino paired 10 kills and seven digs.
Sophomore
Emily Shannon had a solid all-around match, totaling nine kills, a match high 16 digs and four kills, while sister
Ashley Shannon notched 14 digs. Freshman
Emily Stokarski added 34 assists and eight dig sin the victory.
Keystone jumped to an early 6-1 lead in the first set and led 13-6 before Cabrini rallied. The Blue and White responded with a 17-4 run to build a 23-17 lead and it never looked back.
The second set was a tight affair in the early going, but with the score tied at 9-9 Cabrini began to pull away. Three consecutive points gave the club a small cushion that it blew open minutes later. The Cavaliers did not allow Keystone to score consecutive points during the
second half of the set and recorded 10 of the set's final 11 points, including the final eight.
After alternating points in the early minutes of the third frame, Cabrini notched six consecutive points to build an 11-4 lead. The Giants never came closer than three points in the set, before the Cavaliers scored the final five points to end the night.
Senior Hannah Zuchowski led Keystone with five kills and 15 digs, while sophomore Pamela Heitman added 14 digs.
The Cavaliers will step out of conference action this weekend for a trimatch at Franklin & Marshall College. On Saturday, Cabrini will face Stockton University (14-6) at 2pm and the host Diplomats (11-6) at 4pm in Lancaster, PA.
