Volleyball Secures Spot in Title Match with 3-0 Win over Notre Dame

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team secured its place in its ninth consecutive appearance in the Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game with tonight's 3-0 CSAC Tournament win over Notre Dame of Maryland University.

The top seeded Cavaliers will play for their fourth consecutive conference title on Saturday evening, as they welcome number two seed Keystone (21-9) to Nerney Field House.  A start time for the match has not yet been announced.

Tonight's 25-25-18, 25-16, 25-16 win improved the Blue and White to 17-14 on the season, while the Gators fell to 17-9.

Four Cavaliers recorded at least six kills in the team's fifth consecutive win.  Sophomore Emily Shannon earned match high honors with nine kills, while senior Kelly Guarino and junior Anne-Marie Jones added eight kills each. Junior Chelsea Jones chipped in with six kills.

Freshman Emily Stokarski paired 31 assists and nine digs.  Sophomore Ashley Shannon led Cabrini with 13 digs, while Guarino recorded four service aces to go with eight digs.

Cabrini was not as crisp as head coach Erich Schaefer would have liked to start the match, as the first set featured 10 ties and six lead changes.  Trailing 15-13, the Cavaliers began to find their rhythm. The Blue and White scored 12 of the next 15 points to take the first set 25-18.

Despite building an early lead in the second set, the Cavaliers could not pull away for Notre Dame. The Blue and White recorded 14 kills in the frame, while holding the Gators to just five. Notre Dame trailed by just one point at 11-10 when an Emily Shannon kill propelled the Cavaliers to 6-1 run and comfortable 25-16 second set win.

Notre Dame scored the first point of the third set and tied the score at 2-2 before Cabrini put the match away.  A 13-2 run put the Cavaliers ahead 15-4 and they never looked back, closing the night with a 25-16 win in the third set.

Senior Cassidy Keller and freshman Kayleigh Davis led the Gators with four kills each, as the Cavaliers held Notre Dme to just 19 kills on the night.  Junior Jamie Reyes added 13 assists, while senior Cleaya Antes tallied 19 digs.

Keystone advanced to Saturday's title match with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) win over third seed Neumann.  Taylor Beatty led the Giants with 11 kills, wile Pamela Heitman recorded 20 digs.

The Blue and White scores a 25-20, 25-13, 25-15 win over the Giants when the teams met during the regular season on Oct. 6.
