Balanced Scoring Leads No. 8 Men's Lacrosse to 16-9 Win

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse took care of its business in regulation today, as the No. 8 Cavaliers scored a 16-9 win over the visiting Hamdpen-Sydney College Tigers at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Nine Cavaliers found the back of the net, as the Blue and White improved to 4-0 on the season.  Freshman Matt LoParo carried the momentum from Saturday's game-winning goal into today's action, as the rookie paired two goals with a career best six assists.  Senior Ethan Heisman was also in a giving mood, recording a career best four assists among his five points.

Fellow senior Evan Allvord notched his first career hat trick with a trio of second half goals. Freshman Jordan Krug matched Allvord's three points and, along with LoParo, was one of five Cavaliers to score two goals on the night.

Senior Chris Schneekloth won 11 of his 12 chances at the faceoff spot, scooped a game high eight ground balls and notched his first goal of the season.  Sophomore Joe Simpson added five faceoff victories.

Senior Dan Hopson led the Blue and White defensive effort with three caused turnovers, while senior Cole Campbell and junior Steve Halko secured eight ground balls each, one more than freshman Sean Wagner.

Sophomore Tyler Morrell earned the victory, recording 11 saves and a pair of ground balls.

The Cavaliers got off to a hot start, as Heisman and fellow senior Kyle Bush opening the scoring with goals in the first 2:18 of the game.  HS-C got on the board a minute later before the Blue and White extended its lead with four unanswered goals.

LoParo scored both of his goals, including a man-up tally, in the run before Wagner and Krug pushed the lead to 6-1 with 5:23 left in the opening quarter.  Wagner added his second goal of the game late in the first quarter, as Cabrini closed the stanza with a 7-2 lead.

The Tigers added a goal early in the second frame, but the Blue and White responded with back to back goals, as LoParo connected with Magnani for a man-up goal and sophomore Ben Junior to regain the five goal cushion.  The rookie found Magani again in the final minutes of the half, as the Cavaliers carried a 10-5 lead into the break.

HS-C scored the first goal of the third period before Allvord netted a pair of man-up goals as Cabrini doubled up the Tigers 12-6.  HS-C scored two goals late in the third, but Schneekloth took a faceoff win straight to the cage for his first goal of the season and a 13-8 lead with 15 minutes to play.

The Blue and White scoring streak continued into the fourth quarter, as Krug, Allvord and Bush combined with score three goals in a span of 3:32, extending the lead to 16-8.

While the Cabrini offense fired on all cylinders, its defensive effort was an important cog in the win.  The Blue and White fought off three of its four man down situations, only surrendering a man down goal with 1:45 to play.

Among those situations was a one minute span late in the third period, during which the Cavaliers played 6-on-4.  The Cabrini quartet of Hopson, fellow seniors Brian Kittredge and Austin Edelman sophomore Joey Hoey held the Tigers to just one shot and forced a turnover.

Sophomore Ian Levine led the Tigers (4-3) with four goals, an assist and three ground balls.  Classmate Chandler Shaheen added a pair of goals.  Sophomore goaltender Mitch Renfrow allowed seven goals on 10 shots before being replaced by fellow sophomore Grant Osterlund, who posted 10 saves.

The road gets no easier for the Cavaliers, as they host No. 9 Ohio Wesleyan University (5-1) on Saturday.  The fourth meeting between the perennial NCAA Tournament teams is slated for 12 Noon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
