RADNOR, Pa. – After nearly a week of unsettled schedules, the Cabrini softball team returns to action as it hosts the Division II Philadelphia University Rams at Cabrini Field in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
This marks the first meeting between the two clubs. The Rams are 6-21-1 on the year and come into the meeting with the Cavaliers looking to break a five game skid.
Philadelphia University is coming off a pair of losses yesterday to Dominican College, as the Rams fell 5-3 and 4-1.
In game one, Dominican scored a run in the first inning and three in the sixth inning, before the Rams answered. Philadelphia University scored three runs in the top half of the seventh inning but that would be all as the comeback effort fell just short. The Rams combined for four hits and two RBI in the loss.
With two outs in the bottom half of the second inning in game two, a grand slam home run gave the Chargers a 4-0 lead. Philadelphia University held the chargers scoreless the rest of the way but the damage was already done, as the Rams scored just once the rest of the way.
Sophomore Erica D'Angelo has been the Rams best hitter in 2016, with a team high 26 hits and 11 RBI. The sophomore is second on the Rams with a .356 batting average.
Freshman Stephanie Pepper holds a team high .375 batting average and ranks second on the Rams with 24 hits and seven RBI.
Senior Nicole Troisi and Freshman Naomi Stas have led the Rams in the pitchers circle, as both pitchers have earned a pair of wins on the season. Pepper is 1-6 on the year but leads the team with 62 innings pitched and a team high 63 strike outs.
Cabrini was scheduled to play six contests last week, but due to weather, doubleheaders against Marywood and Cairn Universities were rescheduled. In its only action last week, the Blue and White scored a pair of wins over Summit University. The 14-0 and 11-3 home victories improves the Cavaliers to 8-9 overall and a perfect 4-0in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
In game one, freshman
Marissa Alpaugh went 3-3 at the plate and recorded four RBI, while seven other Cavaliers tallied a RBI in the win. Sophomore
Jess Giordano held Summit scoreless through five innings in the pitcher's circle and struck out four Defenders in the win.
