RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini softball team has a couple of busy days ahead, as the Blue and White welcomes the Cedar Crest Falcons today to Cabrini Field, before hosting the Widener Pride tomorrow. Both games are scheduled doubleheaders Set to begin at 3 p.m.
The Cavaliers and Falcons last met in Allentown, Pa. on April 24 last season. The Blue and White scored a pair of victories, topping Cedar Crest 11-5 and 6-4.
Cabrini came out of the gates early in game one, scoring four runs in the first and second innings, before the Falcons answered with a two run third inning.
The Blue and White added three more runs in the fifth inning, while sophomore
Jess Giordano held the Falcons to just three runs the rest of the way to capture the game one win.
After Cabrini's hot start in game one, Cedar Crest built 4-1 through three innings of the nightcap. The game shifted momentum in the fourth, as The Blue and White scored five runs, while holding the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way. Â
Cedar Crest is coming off a pair of close losses to the top team in the CSAC, Neumann. The Falcons dropped game one 4-2 and game two 4-6.
The Falcons are fifth in the CSAC at 16-12 overall and 7-3 in conference action, one spot behind the Blue and White and come into their meeting with the Cavaliers, loaded with offensive firepower.
Sophomore Kaylee Martinez has been the Falcons' best hitter, as the sophomore is currently averaging .484 from the plate and leads the CSAC with 44 hits, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and 38 runs scored.
Sophomore Molly Schnaubelt has also been strong offensively for the Falcons this season. Schnaubelt holds a batting average of .407 and has recorded 33 hits, 11 doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI and runs scored.
Freshman Aimee Sarboukh has tallied 33 hits, four doubles, two triples and 24 RBI for the Falcons.
In the pitcher's circle, Laura Rau leads the Falcons with an 11-5 record and an ERA of 2.47. The rookie has also accumulated a team high 88 strike outs, while sophomore April Daly holds a 5-7 record and an ERA of 4.24.
The Blue and White faced the Pride in the 2015 season finale. The Cavaliers fell 9-3 in game one, before earning a 7-1 win in game two.
In game one, the Pride scored four runs in the first inning, one run in the second and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth inning, while holding the Blue and White to just three runs in the fourth inning.
Game two was all Cavaliers, as Cabrini scored three runs in the second inning and four runs in the sixth inning. The Blue and White held the Pride to just one run in the seventh inning to take game two.
The Pride has been a tough out this season, at 23-5 overall and 8-4 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Widener earned a pair of wins over Eastern yesterday, as the Pride scored 3-2 and 5-4 victories.
Sophomore Katie Sterling is batting .434 on the year and leads the Pride with 43 hits, 10 doubles four home runs and 34 RBI.
Senior Alle Alkins has also been more than solid in the batter's box for the Pride, as the senior is averaging .419 on the season, to go with 36 hits, 8 doubles and 26 RBI.
Junior Alexis Schengrund is 11-2 in the pitcher's circle and currently owns an ERA of 1.30. The junior has allowed just 51 hits, 19 runs scored and 15 walks in 86 innings pitched. Schengrund is also just one strike out away from hitting triple digits.
Cabrini is coming off a pair of losses to Neumann on Saturday. The Blue and White fell 7-4 in game one and 10-5 in game two. The losses dropped the Cavaliers to 14-13 overall and 11-3 in the CSAC.
Senior
Kaitlyn Cooper has led Cabrini from the plate this season, with a .388 batting average, 31 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI.
Freshman
Marissa Alpaugh and junior
Lindsay Savar have also been solid in the batter's box for the Blue and White. Alpaugh is averaging .384 and has a team high 33 hits with 21 RBI, while Savar owns a .395 batting average and has collected 30 hits, two home runs and 14 RBI on the year.
Giordano is 7-5 in the pitcher's circle this year and owns an ERA of 2.76. Through 81 innings pitched, Giordano has allowed 80 hits, 25 earned runs and has tallied 43 strike outs.
