Cabrini Mourns Loss of FAR Dr. David Dunbar

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College community suffered another tragedy on Saturday, May 21, as Associate Professor of Biology and Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. David Dunbar lost his life in an auto accident.

Dr. Dunbar came to Cabrini in 2001 and quickly gained a reputation for getting the best out of his students.  He was highly involved in his students' academic progress, and as a result, his students generally excelled in their studies.

Among others, Dr. Dunbar taught Introductory Biology Lab, Cell and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, and Developmental Biology at Cabrini, as well as working with students on a myriad of biology and environmental science projects.

No stranger to athletics, Dr. Dunbar played Inside Linebacker at Lycoming College, while completing his bachelor's degree in biology with a chemistry minor.  He completed his Ph.D. in molecular biology at Lehigh University and did post-doctorate study at Yale University in the area of cellular processes, the study of how individual cell components function.

Dr. Dunbar was named Faculty Athletic Representative in October 2011.  As Cabrini's FAR, Dr. Dunbar represented the College's academic faculty in athletic administration and worked on behalf of Cabrini's student-athletes regarding academic issues.

The College will host a memorial service for Dr. Dunbar on Friday, June 3 at 4 p.m. on the campus commons.

For those wishing to donate a gift in Dr. Dunbar's honor, three options have been suggested (although you may also donate to any organization that you feel honors Dr. Dunbar's memory):

1)    David Dunbar Fund for Undergraduate Science Research – Dr. Dunbar was a national leading advocate for undergraduate student research. Funds will be used to provide opportunities for undergraduate science students to conduct research with faculty mentors.

2)    Cabrini College memorial space for Dr. Dunbar – A space will be created on Cabrini's campus near Emmaus House (along the Eagle Road driveway) to honor David's love for nature, ecology and education.

These first two donations can be sent directly to the Cabrini College Office of Institutional Advancement, 610 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087.  Please make checks payable to Cabrini College and, if you have a preference, designate which fund.

3)    Valley Forge Trout Unlimited (http://www.valleyforgetu.org), the 501c(3) organization of the Valley Creek Restoration Partnership.  David's love for fly fishing was legendary.  Donations can be sent to Valley Forge Trout Unlimited, c/o Frank Donohoe, 17 Amy Lane, Malvern, PA 19355.
