CLAREMONT, CA – The Cabrini volleyball team dropped a pair of games today at the Pacific Coast Classic at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Southern California. The Cavaliers lost to Chapman College 3-1 before succumbing to Occidental College 3-0 in the nightcap.
Sophomore
Emily Shannon and junior
Chelsea Jones paced the Blue and White in the 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 loss to Chapman. Shannon recorded a posted her first career double-double, recording 12 kills and 12 digs. Jones added 10 kills and matched a career best with five blocks.
Senior
Kelly Guarino tallied a match high 19 digs, while freshman
Kristen Bettermann added three service aces in her collegiate debut. Junior
Kaylee Plisinski paired four kills and four blocks.
The Cavaliers struggled to find their rhythm against Occidental, falling in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-18.
Shannon provided Cabrini's firepower with 11 kills, while sister
Ashley Shannon directed the offense to the tune of 21 assists. Both also recorded a team high six digs, one more than Guarino. Junior
Anne-Marie Jones added five kills in the loss.
The road trip gets no easier for the Cavaliers on Saturday, as they face the University of Minnesota Morris (0-1) tomorrow at 2:15 before meeting defending NCAA Champion and No. 1 ranked California Lutheran (2-0) at 6:30.
