RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team rode a high powered offense and timely defense to a 7-3 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The nonconference snapped the club's losing streak at three and improved it to 3-5 on the year, while Stevens fell to 4-3.
Senior
Taylor Mack and junior
Jackie Neary paced the Blue and White attack with three goals each. The hat trick marked the first for Neary and the second this season for Mack. Junior
Sara Johnsen also netted her second career goal.
Mack put the Cavaliers on the board in the second minute, as she collected a loose ball and dribbled through the Ducks' defense. Four minutes later, the senior returned to the scoring column after putting her own rebound in the Stevens' cage.
Neary added to the scoring in the 15th minute when she dribbled along the right baseline through the Stevens defense for the goal.
Stevens got on the board in the 23rd minute, but Cabrini carried its 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
The Blue and White regained its three goal cushion in the 51st minute, as junior
Maddy Worley's through ball found Mack. The senior put a move on the Stevens goalkeeper and completed her hat trick. Johnsen's goal came two minutes later, when classmate
Sara DeVita's crossing pass found Johnson in front of the goal.
Stevens looked as though it would mount a comeback, scoring a pair of 57th minute goals, but a Cabrini timeout calmed the Cavaliers. Senior
Kylie McDevitt refocused the team, imploring teh team to finish the game the way it started..
The team's determination was solidified in the 61st and 62nd minutes, as Neary completed her hat trick and sealed the Blue and White win.
While Cabrini scored seven goals on just 13 shots, the defense was also a huge part of the victory. The Cavaliers held Stevens to just nine shots, less than half of its season average, and thwarted 12 Ducks' penalty corners.
The Blue and White played down a player for 10 minutes as a result of two yellow cards, but managed to score a goal during one of the penalties.

Taylor Bookman made just one save to earn the victory, while freshman
Katie Kucia added a defensive save.
Cabrini will return to action on Saturday, as it opens colonial States Athletic Conference play against Neumann University (4-3, 0-0 CSAC). The game is slated for a noon start at Edith Robb Dixon Field as one of five home events for Cabrini's Homecoming celebration.
