MADISON, NJ – The Cabrini field hockey team fell short in its upset bid, as the Cavaliers suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 10 Montclair State today at the Drew University Fall Festival.  The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 0-2 on the year, while the Red Hawks improved to 2-0.

Montclair State jumped to an early lead, notching the game's first goal in the sixth minute, before doubling its lead in the 20th minute.  

Despite being outshot 14-4 and watching the Red Hawks attempt six penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes, the Blue and White held its own.  Junior goaltender Taylor Bookman recorded six of her career high 10 saves in the first half, as Cabrini trailed just 2-0 at the break.

Montclair State imposed its will in the opening six minutes of the second half, scoring three goals in that span to build a 5-0 lead.  Cabrini got on the board in the 61st minute, as junior Jackie Neary tallied her first goal of the season on the Cavaliers' only shot of the second half.

The Blue and White recorded five shots on the day, including two from Neary, while the Red Hawks amassed 24.

Amber Haslett led Montclair State with three goals, one more than Kaitlyn Struss.  Kaitlin Maguire recorded three saves to earn the victory.

The Cavaliers will return to the pitch on Sunday, as they face the host Rangers (0-1) at 11am.
