Volleyball Extends CSAC Streak with 3-0 Win at Neumann

ASTON, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team extended its Colonial States Athletic Conference win streak to 54 matches tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a 3-0 victory at Neumann University.

With the win, the Blue and White improved to 18-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference, matching its 2016 win total.

Freshman Steph Judkins led the Cavaliers in tonight's 28-26, 25-13, 25-22, pairing 14 kills and 16 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Junior Emily Shannon added seven kills, one more than senior Anne-Marie Jones and freshman Morgan Collito.

Freshman Olivia Blankenbiller narrowly missed a double-double, recording 33 assists and nine digs, while junior Ashley Shannon added a match-high 19 digs and five assists.

Cabrini built an early 8-2 lead in the opening set and pushed its lead as high as 14-3 before the Knights rallied. Neumann slowly mounted a comeback, taking a 26-25 lead.

The Blue and White evened the score at 26, as Blankenbiller and senior Chelsea Jones combined for the Cavaliers' only block of the match.  Cabrini took advantage of two Neumann attack errors to close the first set win 28-26.

The Cavaliers carried their momentum into the second set, building an early 9-4 lead. The Knights pulled within 9-6 but would get no closer, as Cabrini never allowed Neumann to record more than two consecutive points.

Neumann controlled the scoreboard for much of the third set, building a 12-8 lead. Cabrini rallied to take a short-lived 13-12 lead, as the Knights regained their lead and pushed it to 19-16.

The Cavaliers evened the score at 19 and 20. Trailing 21-20, Cabrini made its final push of the match, scoring four consecutive points to take a 24-21 lead. A Neumann point briefly stopped the run before Judkins' final kill of the night closed the action.

Melanie Malseed led Neumann (10-19, 5-2 CSAC) with 10 kills and 14 digs.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Saturday, as they visit Haverford for a tri-match. Cabrini will face McDaniel College (15-3) at 2pm and the host Fords (13-8) at 4pm.
