PITTSBURGH, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team opened its weekend with a 3-0 victory over Denison University at the Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational in Pittsburgh tonight.
The Cavaliers' 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 win extended the team's win streak to nine matches and improved the Blue and White to 23-4.
The Cavaliers built an early lead in the opening set, but both teams exchanged the lead throughout much of the frame. With the score tied at 16, a Big Red service error and a kill by junior
Emily Shannon gave the Blue and White the cushion it needed.
Minutes later, Denison pulled within one point, but Cabrini responded with five consecutive points to take a commanding 24-19 lead.
Cabrini took control of the second set in the early going, as it used a 7-0 spurt to take a 9-2 lead. The Cavaliers' advantage grew as large as 21-8 before Denison tried to mount a comeback.
The Blue and White remained focused, as it never allowed Denison to pull within nine points before closing the set and taking a 2-0 lead.
The Big Red scored the first five points of the third frame. Trailing 16-12, Cabrini made its move. The Cavaliers reeled off seven straight points and 10 of the next 11 to take a 22-17 lead.
Denison snapped the run with a pair of points before the Cavaliers tallied the final three points of the match.

Anne-Marie Jones paced the Cavaliers with 15 kills, moving into fourth place on the program's all-time kills list. Freshman
Steph Judkins added 11 kills, seven digs and two service aces.

Olivia Blankenbiller chipped in with 36 assists, six digs and two aces, wile junior
Ashley Shannon notched a match-high 15 digs.
Alex Tubbs and Isabella Pivec led Denison (11-10) with seven kills each.
The Cavaliers will face a tough test tomorrow, as they look for a 10th consecutive victory. Cabrini will face invitational host and No. 6 ranked Carnegie Mellon (22-1) at 1pm and DeSales (18-7) at 3pm.
