PITTSBURGH, PA – The Cavaliers saw their nine match win streak come to an end this afternoon, as the Cabrini volleyball team split two matches to close the two-day Carnegie Mellon Mini Invitational.
The Blue and White fell to the host, No. 6 Tartans 3-0 before topping DeSales 3-0. Today's nonconference results moved the Cavaliers to 24-5 overall.
Cabrini held its own against Carnegie Mellon (24-1), falling 25-22, 25-22, 25-23.
Freshman
Steph Judkins led the Cavaliers, narrowly missing a double-double with a match-high 13 kills and nine digs. Senior
Anne-Marie Jones added 10 kills.
Freshman
Olivia Blankenbiller notched 32 assists, while junior
Ashley Shannon led the Blue and White will 19 digs, three more than freshman
Morgan Collito.
Eliza Donahue and Sarah Jurgens combined for 22 kills for the Tartans.
The Cavaliers rallied in the nightcap, scoring a 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 win over DeSales (19-8)
Judkins earned match-high honors with 14 kills, while Jones added 11 kills, moving into third place on the program's all-time kills list with 1,036.
Blankenbiller directed the attack with 35 assists. With today's performance, the rookie surpasses 1,000 assists for the season. Blankenbiller joins Cassidy Koenig (2013, 2015) as the only Cavaliers to reach the milestone.
Shannon notched 16 digs, while Collito added 10.
Gabby Savite led the Bulldogs with 14 kills in the loss.
The Blue and White will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, as they host Rosemont and Marywood for a tri-match.
The Cavaliers will face Rosemont (3-14, 2-7 CSAC) at 5pm and Marywood (10-15, 6-2 CSAC) at 9pm. Rosemont and Marywood will match wits at 7pm.
