Field Hockey Stumbles in 2-1 Loss at Keystone

LA PLUME, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team recorded 26 shots today at Keystone College, their second most of the season. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, only one found the back of the cage, as the Blue and White suffered a 2-1 loss to the Giants this afternoon.

The loss dropped Cabrini to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  With one league game remaining, the Cavaliers are tied with Immaculata for second place in the standings.

The Cabrini defense surrendered just one shot in the opening 35 minutes, but the Giants made the most of it, as Kayla Bain's breakaway goal gave Keystone a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play.

The Blue and White evened the score in the 11th minute, as senior Maddy Worley's centering pass found classmate Sara Johnsen for her fourth goal of the season.

Despite a 17-1 advantage in shots and 12 first half penalty corners to none for Keystone, the Cavaliers found themselves deadlocked at 1-1 at the half.

Keystone netted the eventual game-winner in the 43rd minute on its first shot of the second half, as Savanna Robinson scored off a loose ball scramble in front of the Blue and White cage.

Cabrini created several scoring chances in the final 13 minutes of play, forcing four penalty corners and eight shots, to no avail.

Senior Jackie Neary led the Cavaliers with a season-high 10 shots, while Worley added six.  Senior goaltender Taylor Bookman recorded four saves in the loss.

Robinson accounted for five of the Giants' (6-9, 3-3 CSAC) eight shots on the day, while goaltender Emily Hawkins tallied nine saves.

The Cavaliers will look to rally on Wednesday, when they return to Edith Robb Dixon Field to face Notre Dame of Maryland University.  The opening whistle is slated for 4pm.
