BEVERLY, MA – The Cabrini field hockey team saw its three game win streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 4-1 loss at Endicott College in Beverly, MA.
The nonconference loss dropped the Blue and White to 4-6 on the year, while the Gulls improved to 11-2.
The Gulls wasted little time in grabbing a lead in the first ever meeting between the two teams, tallying goals in the seventh and 12th minutes.
Cabrini finally found its footing in the 17th minute, as it recorded the first of five penalty corners it would record over the next six minutes.
Endicott extended its lead to 3-0 in the final minutes of the first half.
The Blue and White forced three penalty corners in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Gulls' defense stood firm. Minutes later, Endicott took advantage of its penalty corner chances, recording its fourth goal on a 42nd minute rebound.
Freshman
Gabby Thompson put Cabrini on the board in the 52nd minute, with a blast from the right side of the scoring zone for her first career goal.
While both clubs forced 10 penalty corners on the day, the Cavaliers were outshot 22-10, including 17-7 in shots on goal. Senior
Sara DeVita led Cabrini with four shots, two more than classmates
Alexandra Swallow and
Maddy Worley.
Senior goaltender
Taylor Bookman recorded 12 saves on the day, while classmate
Jess Tennett added a defensive save.
Sophomore Cogliano scored three goals for the Gulls, while Jaylin Grabau paired a goal and an assist.
The Blue and White will return to action on Wednesday, as it visits Gwynedd Mercy. No strangers to each other, the Cavaliers and Griffins have met in the last seven CSAC championship games. The opening whistle Is scheduled for 6pm in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
