No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Overpowers Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team scored early and often today, and cruised to a 15-6 victory at Hampden-Sydney College.

Seven Cavaliers marked the scoring column, as the No. 7 Blue and White improved to 3-0 on the season.

Sophomore Jordan Krug matched a career high with seven points, pairing a career best six goals and an assists.  Freshman Tyler Kostack stayed hot, as the rookie netted four goals.

Junior Zack Gergory went 6-11 at the faceoff spot, recorded a goal and an assist to go with a game high four ground balls.  Freshmen Tommy DeLuca and Matt Nestler forced three turnovers each, while Nestler notched 10 saves.

After eight minutes of scoreless action, Cabrini took control of the game and never looked back.  Krug scored the first of his four first quarter goals with just south of eight minutes left in the quarter.

Kostack doubled the lead at the 5:52 mark before the rookie and Gregory added man-up goals just seconds from each other.  The lead swelled to 6-0, as Krug added two goals to complete his hat trick in a span of just over four minutes.

The Tigers halted the Cabrini run with a pair of man-up goals by Duncan Morris before the Blue and White closed the period with a flurry. Kostack and Krug combined for three goals in the final 1:56 of the frame to give the Cavaliers a 9-2 lead.

Hampden-Sydney opened the scoring in the second quarter, but it would be its only goal of the period. Freshman Kevin Leyden hit Krug for his fifth goal of the day at the 11:47 mark.  Gregory won the ensuing faceoff and found freshman Jake Klein 10 seconds later for the rookie's first career tally.

Krug completed his scoring in the final minutes of the half, as the Blue and White carried a 12-3 lead into the halftime break.

Sophomore Timmy Brooks marked his name in the scorebook early in the third quarter, while seniors Pat Regan and Evan Downey added fourth quarter goals.

While the offense clicked on all cylinders, the Blue and White defense came to play today as well.  The Tigers were held to just 29 shots and turned the ball over 29 times.  Hampden-Sydney also had trouble in its transition game, as the Cavaliers held the Tigers to just 11-27 clear chances.

Morris and Luc Cassier scored two goals each for Hampden-Sydney (3-2). Mitch Renfrow suffered the loss despite recording 16 saves.

The Cavaliers will face their third consecutive road game on Saturday, as the club travels to Dickinson College. Game time is scheduled for 1pm in Carlisle, PA.
