CARLISLE, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team scored five consecutive goals to erase a 5-2 lead, but the Cavaliers were outscored 6-3 in the second half. Dickinson scored the game's final three goals to claim a 11-9 victory today in Carlisle, PA.
The No. 7 Blue and White fell to 3-1 on the year, while the Red Devils improved to 3-0.
Senior
Evan Downey and sophomore
Timmy Brooks led the Cavaliers with three goals each, while recording seven shots each.
Freshman
Tommy DeLuca and junior
Zack Gregory shared team high honors with Downey, as all three claimed three ground balls. Gregory added an assist and went 5-12 at the faceoff spot, while DeLuca caused a pair of turnovers.
Freshman
Matt Nestler recorded nine saves before suffering his first career defeat.
The Red Devils jumped ahead early with a pair of goals in the opening minutes. Downey put the Blue and White on the board with a man-down goal before Brooks found freshman
Mike Gerzabek to even the score at 2-2 with just under five minutes left in the period.
Dickinson regained the momentum, scoring two goals in the final 3:46 of the first quarter. The Red Devils extended their scoring run into the second quarter to build a 5-2 lead.
Cabrini responded in a big way, posting five consecutive goals.
Sophomore
Bill Morgan began the run with a man-down goal, before Gregory hit Brooks for a man-up tally. Kostack recorded the first of his three helpers, hitting Downey to even the score with 4:45 left in the half.
Sophomore
Jordan Krug marked the score book at the 2:46 mark to give the Cavaliers a 6-5 lead and the momentum heading in the half.
Cabrini pushed its lead to 7-5 on Downey's unassisted goal in the opening minute of the third quarter.
Dickinson cut into Cabrini's lead at the 11:24 mark and evened the score at 7-7 with a man-up tally with 10 minutes left in the frame. The Cavaliers regained a slim lead on Brooks' second goal of the afternoon, but the Blue and White could not pull away.
The Red Devils forced the fourth tie of the game with a goal to even the score at 8-8 heading in the final 15 minutes of action.
Kostack hit Brooks to complete the sophomore's hat trick 40 seconds into the fourth, but the Cavaliers would not find the back of the net again.
Dickinson recorded the final three goals of the day, before turning to its defense to seal the win.
The Blue and White recorded seven of its 38 shots over the final seven minutes of action, but Dickinson goaltender Andrew Jones posted three of is 10 saves during the final stand.
Tucker Carney led the Red Devils with two goals, two assists and four ground balls. Brodie Phillips and Dylan Maher added two goals each.
The Cavaliers will have a few days to regroup before welcoming Frostburg State (2-2) to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1pm.
