Men's Lacrosse Suffers 2nd Consecutive Loss, Falls to Frostburg St. 11-8

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team never found its rhythm today, as it suffered an 11-8 nonconference loss Frostburg State today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The loss drops the No. 9 Cavaliers to 3-2 on the year and snapped the club's 11 game home win streak.

Freshman Tyler Kostack paced the Cabrini offense with three goals, marking his fourth hat trick in five contests.  Fellow rookie Drew Hanna paired a goal and two assists in his first career start. Senior Evan Downey added a goal and an assist.

Freshman Matt Nestler suffered the loss after surrendering six goals in the opening 23 minutes of action.  Sophomore Riley White posted three saves after replacing Nestler in the 32rd minutes.

Senior Steven Halko caused a career high four turnovers and scooped four ground balls, while junior Joey Hoey and freshman Kyle Myers caused two miscues each.  Sophomore Timmy Brooks and Hanna secured three ground balls each.

The Bobcats jumped to an early lead as junior Adam Gross scored the first of his two goals 3:24 after the opening whistle.  Sophomore Nicholas Waligurski evened the score at the 6:11 mark of the first quarter.

Hanna seemed to give the Cavaliers some momentum to open the second quarter, as the freshman scored his first career goal just 24 seconds into the period.  Frostburg State responded with a scoring flurry, as five Bobcats marked the scoring column over the next six minutes to build a 6-2 lead with seven minutes left in the second.

Hanna connected with Kostack to snap the Frostburg State spurt, but the Bobcats found the back of the net with just four seconds left in the half, carrying a 7-3 lead into the break.

Frostburg State pushed its lead to five goals early in the third quarter, before the Blue and White mounted a comeback. Senior Pat Regan, Kostack and Downey marked the scoring column to pull the Cavaliers to within 8-6 with 72 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Bobcats regained any momentum the Blue and White had created with a goal just 19 seconds into the final period.  Brooks' unassisted tally cut the Cabrini deficit back to two goals two minutes later.

Frostburg State sealed the victory with two goals in a 47 second span midway through the fourth quarter.

The Blue and White won just nine of the game's 23 faceoffs, with sophomore Trey Critides winning six of 11 changes.

Cabrini committed a season low 11 turnovers and caused a season high 14 turnovers.

Senior Chase Cullison led the Bobcats (4-2) with five points and was joined by Gross, sophomore Jake Howarth and junior Keegan Colegrove with two goals each. Senior Kyle Horak went 14-23 at the faceoff spot, including 6-6 in the fourth quarter, and secured 10 ground balls.

Freshman Jack Marks earned the win for Frostburg State with 12 saves, with seven coming after the half.

The Cavaliers will have some time to regroup before welcoming No. 14 Ursinus (4-0) to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday.  Faceoff is slated for 3pm.
