Volleyball Splits a Pair at VA Wesleyan Tournament

NORFOLK, VA – The Cabrini volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the 2017 season.  The Cavaliers suffered a 3-0 loss to Marymount University before scoring a 3-0 win over Goucher College at the VA Wesleyan College Tournament.

Despite pairing 36 kills against 11 attack errors, the Blue and White dropped a tight 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 match to Marymount.  

Freshman Steph Judkins made a major impact, notching a double-double in her first collegiate action, pairing a team high 11 kills and 16 digs.  

Fellow rookie Olivia Blankenbiller added 32 assists and seven digs, while junior Ashley Shannon notched 18 digs.  Senior Anne-Marie Jones, junior Emily Shannon and freshman Morgan Collito added six kills each.

The Blue and White rebounded in its second match of the day, posting just three attack errors as it cruised to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Goucher.

Blankenbiller notched her first career double-double, with 25 assists and 10 digs.  Judkins added a team high six kills to lead an offense that saw 10 Cavaliers score at least one kill.

Jones chipped in with five kills, while the senior duo of Chelsea Jones and Kaylee Plisinski combined for eight kills and five total blocks.  Ashley Shannon recorded a team high 13 digs.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday, as they face Randolph-Macon (1-0) and Benedictine (0-2) on the tournament's second day of action.
