Volleyball Closes Opening Weekend with 2-2 Mark

NORFOLK, VA – The Cabrini volleyball team completed its season opening trip to the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament with a 2-2 mark after splitting a pair of matches today.

The Cavaliers suffered a tough five set loss to Randolph-Macon before sweeping Benedictine.

The Blue and White got off to a slow start in its morning match against Randolph-Macon, dropping each of the first two sets 25-16. Looking defeat in the face, the Cavaliers rallied take the third 25-23 before evening the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

Cabrini's comeback attempt ultimately fell short, as the Yellow Jackets (2-0) claimed the final set 15-7 and a 3-2 match victory.

Freshman Steph Judkins led the Cavaliers with a monster double-double, as the rookie paired 25 kills and 25 digs.  Fellow freshman Olivia Blankenbiller matched her classmate's double-double with 49 assists and 19 digs.

Junior Ashley Shannon tallied a career high 43 digs, while sister Emily Shannon added 20 digs and sophomore Kristen Bettermann 14 digs.

The Cavaliers had little time to regroup, as a game Benedictine (0-3) squad was waiting. Cabrini shook off the morning's defeat and cruised to a 25-6, 25-16, 25-16 win over the Eagles.

Judkins, again, paced the Blue and White offense with a team-high 10 kills. Senior Kaylee Plisinski was strong at the net, recording seven kills and six total blocks, including three solo stuffs.

Blankenbiller tallied 15 assists and three total blocks, while the Shannon twins combined for 31 digs.

Cabrini will return to competition next weekend, as it travels to Allentown, PA for the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College.  The Cavaliers will face CSAC rival Neumann and Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, before meeting the host Mules and SUNY Cortland on Saturday.
