RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini field hockey team's upset bid fell short today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 3 Salisbury University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
With the loss, the Blue and White's record stands at 1-5, while the Sea Gulls improved to 4-1.
Despite being outshot 8-3 and recording just one penalty corner, Cabrini held its own through much of the first half. Salisbury took advantage of its six first half penalty corners in the 21 minute, as Emily Lemanski scored off a set piece.
Salisbury added to its lead in the 33rd minute, as Arielle Johnston added a goal off a penalty corner.
Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Blue and White continued to battle in the second half, but Sea Gulls turned up their offensive pressure in the opening minutes of the stanza.
The pressure paid off in the 43rd minute, when Natalie Wilkinson recorded the final goal of the day.
Undeterred, the Cavaliers continued to try and find a way to crack open the score book. After forcing just one penalty corner before the break, the Cavaliers forced eight in the second half, but could not find the right scoring combination.
Senior
Jackie Neary accounted for five of the Blue and White's seven shots on the day, while fellow senior
Taylor Bookman added eight shots. Freshman
Emily Manda added a second half defensive save.
After three consecutive home games, the Cavaliers will hit the road on Wednesday, as they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is slated for 4pm in Hoboken, NJ.
