RADNOR, PA – After a slow first half, the Cabrini field hockey team found its offensive rhythm and scored a 3-0 win over Cedar Crest College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The win improved the Cavaliers to 3-5, while the Falcons fell to 4-2.
Senior
Maddy Worley put the Blue and White on the board in the fourth minute, converting a pass from classmate
Alexandra Swallow.
That was about all the offense Cabrini mounted in the opening 35 minutes, as the Cavaliers recorded just three first half shots.
The Blue and White defense held Cedar Crest to just two shots, despite the Falcons earning seven first half penalty corners.
The Cabrini coaching staff refocused the team at the break and the Cavaliers responded.
Cabrini doubled its lead in the 42nd minute, as Swallow punched in a rebound after a shot by senior
Sara DeVita. Seven minutes later, the Cavaliers closed the scoring, as DeVita drove the baseline before finding Worley in front of the goal for her second tally of the day.
The Blue and White never allowed Cedar Crest to find any comfort in the second half, as Cabrini outshot the Falcons 17-0 and earned eight second half penalty corners to none for Cedar Crest.
Swallow led Cabrini with six shots, while Swallow, DeVita and fellow senior
Jackie Neary tallied three each.
Fellow senior goaltender
Taylor Bookman was not called on for a save in recording her 10th career shutout.
Freshmen Annalise Unger and Ally Arabio recorded the Falcons' two shots, while sophomore goaltender Cassandra Reijgers posted seven saves.
The Cavaliers have a few days to relax before returning to action next Saturday with a trip to Marywood University (1-5, 0-0 CSAC). The opening whistle is scheduled for 6pm in Scranton, PA.
