Late Goals Down Field Hockey in Regular Season Finale

READING, PA – The Cabrini field hockey team held its slim lead until the game's final minutes but a pair of late goals sent the Cavaliers to a 2-1 loss at Alvernia.

The loss closed the Blue and White's regular season at 4-12 overall.

The Golden Wolves were on the attack from the opening minutes, outshooting the Cavaliers 9-1 in the first half and forcing five penalty corners.

The Blue and White's defensive effort was up to the task. Junior goaltender Devon Scharf notched six of her 11 saves before the halftime break.

Sophomore Trisha Billig recorded both of Cabrini's shots on the day, one in each half. The sophomore made the most of her second half chance, putting the Blue and White on the board with an unassisted goal 70 seconds into the second period.

Alvernia continued its offensive pressure from the first half, adding seven more shots and nine second half penalty corners.

The Golden Wolves' pressure finally paid off in the 65th minute, when Morgan Mondschein evened the score with an unassisted goal.

Four minutes later, Alvernia found the back of the cage again, as Erica Groves' pass found Taylor Dorrin for the game-winning goal with just 90 seconds to play.

Mondschein led the Golden Wolves (11-7) with five shots one more than Madison Potthoff and Andrea Zimmerman.

The Cavaliers will now turn their attention to the 2018 Atlantic East Conference Tournament.

Cabrini will begin postseason play on Monday, when they visit Neumann University (8-7, 3-2 Atlantic East) in a quarterfinal round game. Game time is set for 4pm in Aston, PA.
