RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini volleyball team closed its regular season with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Rowan Profs today at Nerney Field House.
The 25-9, 25-23, 25-19 victory improved the Cavaliers to 21-9 overall, while Rowan fell to 17-15.
Prior to today's action, the Blue and White honored its three seniors,
Kassie Ockford,
Ashley Shannon and
Emily Shannon.
Among the most successful classes in program history, these ladies have led the Blue and White to 93 wins, including a perfect 27-0 mark in conference matches, and three Colonial States Athletic Conference championships.
Emily Shannon recorded her 17th double-double of the season, pairing 20 assists and 12 digs to go with three aces and a pair of blocks.
Ashley Shannon added 15 digs, five assists and two aces, while Ockford posted six kills.
Sophomore
Steph Judkins provided the firepower for the Cavaliers with 17 kills, against just two errors, and eight digs. The sophomore entered the Cabrini record book in the first set, as her sixth kill of the day broke the program's single season kills mark of 453.
Junior
Katrina Shelly notched nine kills, while freshman
Amelia Ballard totaled 14 assists. Fellow rookie
Gina Custer chipped in with 10 digs, while classmate
Hannah Dalton totaled three blocks.
The Cavaliers came out on fire, posting 15 kills against just one attack error in the opening set, rolling to a 25-9 victory.
Despite building an early 8-2 lead in the second frame, the Blue and White could not continue its roll from the first set. Cabrini seemed to be in control of the set at 20-12, but the Profs mounted a late comeback.
Rowan took advantage of five Cabrini errors in the final minutes of the set to pull within 24-23, but a Profs' service error closed the set.
The Profs grabbed an early lead in the third set, before Judkins served the Cavaliers to four consecutive points and a 9-6 lead. Cabrini never trailed again, maintaining at least a two for the majority of rest of the match.
Junior Megan Jacobi led the Profs with eight kills, while senior Erin Keegan added 10 digs. Freshman Alaina Santacroce paired 11 assists and nine digs in the loss.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Thursday, when they host a semifinal round match in the 2018 Atlantic East Conference Tournament. By virtue of its 6-0 mark in league play, the Blue and White has earned the tournament's top seed and home court advantage throughout the tournament.
Cabrini will face the lowest remaining seed after Tuesday's quarterfinal matches. Game time is set for 7pm at Nerney Field House.
