Last Meeting: Cabrini 3, Wesley 2 (10/3/2018, Dover, DE)
The Wolverines grabbed an early lead, as senior Chimaobi Ikwuagwu put Wesley on the board just over two minutes into the match.
Cabrini responded in the 11th minute, as junior
Kostas Slikas collected a rebound off his own shot and put away the rebound for his first goal of the campaign. The Cavaliers extended their lead in the 30th frame, as freshman
Ben Cahill dribbled through the Wesley defense before notching his first career goal.
The Blue and White maintained its one goal cushion until the 77th minute, when freshman Jordan Angel's goal pulled the Wolverines into a 2-2 tie.
As the match looked to be headed for overtime, the Cavaliers took advantage of their final scoring chance. A Wesley foul provided the Blue and White the opportunity it needed. Senior
Matt Ochman's service found junior
Andre Justin, whose header in the box eluded Wesley junior goaltender Kyle Springsteen.
Cabrini Last Time Out: Cabrini 2, Immaculata 1 (10/24/2018, Radnor, PA)
Cabrini's junior goaltender
Mike Gould and Immaculata sophomore Mikey Kalpokas kept their respective team's score sheets clean with five first half saves each.
The Cavaliers turned up their offensive pressure after the halftime break, but it was the Mighty Macs that struck first. The Macs opened the scoring in the 56th minute, when Chad Catalano and Alex D'Angelo found freshman Zachary Malcolm inside the 18 for the night's first goal.
Despite outshooting Immaculata 13-4 in the second half, it was a Mighty Macs' miscue that put the Blue and White on the board. Sophomore
John Griffin's 76th minute crossing pass was deflected past Kalpokas into the Immaculata net, evening the score at 1-1.
The teams combined for six shots in the final 13 minutes of regulation, with both teams finding the pipe, but to no avail. With playoff seeding implications hanging in the balance, the Cavaliers created the first scoring chance in overtime. A foul against freshman
Nick Booth gave Cabrini a free kick just outside the penalty area on the left side of the pitch.
Junior Thomas Butz served the ball into the six yard box, where classmate
Andre Justin was streaking for the game-winning header.
Wesley Last Time Out: Wesley 2, Marywood 1 (2OT) (10/30/2018, Dover, DE)
A Luis Curz rebound header lifted the third-seeded Wesley College men's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime victory on Tuesday over the sixth-seeded.Marywood Pacers.
After a scoreless first half, Deekai Gbonimy got on the board in the 48th minute for the first score of the game. Bruce Yeager would throw the ball in play to Kevin Flores-Gomez. Flores-Gomez played the ball right back to Yeager who teed up a long ball that led Gbonimy into the Wesley attacking zone. As the keeper came out to contest the attack, Gbonimy snuck a touch on the ball that led him past the Marywood defense and scoring in the open net.
With just a few minutes left in regulation, P.J. Fiore settled the ball out of the air after a failed Wesley clearance. Fiore would then find Zac Lloyd, who took the ball off his chest and ripped a shot past the Wesley goalkeeper to tie the contest and send the game into overtime.
In the second overtime period, Wesley turned up the pressure registering three shots in two minutes. With just over a minute left to go, Ikwuagwu put a header on frame that was saved by the Marywood keeper. Cruz caught the rebound with a header of his own that landed in the back of the net, sending Wesley into the semifinals of the Atlantic East Conference Championship Tournament.
